Western Federation of Watercolor Societies

The mission of WFWS is to encourage and recognize artistic excellence and promote the visibility of watercolor in the West.  Membership in WFWS is automatic for any member of one of the eleven different regional societies. IWS is one of eleven regional society members of the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. WFWS sponsors an annual juried exhibition hosted each year by a different member.

The WFWS44 Exhibition will be held in San Diego this coming May 2 through May 31st, 2019 at the San Diego Watercolor Society Gallery.  2825 Dewey Rd. San Diego, CA 92106. This event can be viewed online at sdws.org.

WFWS-45 News – 2020

The Idaho Watercolor Society (IWS) brings the prestigious Best of the West 45th Annual Juried WFWS Exhibition, Convention, and Trade Show to Boise ID, June 3 – 7, 2020. Make sure to view our short welcome video!

  • Exhibition to be held at the Idaho State Museum, June 4 through July 26, 2020
  • Banquet, Gala and Awards also held at the Idaho State Museum, June 6, 2020
  • Convention, Trade Show, and accommodations at the Riverside Hotel (lodging at reduced rates).

Plan to enter the WFWS-45 Exhibition.  The prospectus will be available on this site July 10, 2019, and submissions are due January 10, 2020.

The WFWS-45 Exhibition will be held at the newly renovated Idaho State Museum in Boise from June 4 through July 26, 2020.  The Juried Exhibition Banquet, Awards, and Reception will be held June 6th at the Idaho State Museum from 5 – 9pm. The Welcome Dinner, Convention (mini-classes), Trade Show, and accommodations will beheld at the Riverside Hotel June 4 – 6th, 2020.   2900 Chinden Boulevard, Boise, ID 83714  • TEL 208-343-1871  • FAX 208-344-1079  – $119.00 (includes breakfast)
Internationally known juror, Stephen Quiller, will jury and conduct a 4 day IWS Workshop May 6 – 9th, 2020. He will also be giving a public demo/talk May 7, 7 – 8:30 pm.

May 7: Juror presentation and demonstration at JUMP Boise.  FREE

June 4: Opening Evening Banquet for delegates, artists, and guests: Riverside Hotel, Sapphire Room

June 5: All-day events: Delegate meeting; mini-classes; art talks; demonstrations; trade show; and networking meeting.

June 6: All-day events: Delegate Meeting; Networking Meeting; demos; art talks; and trade show; tours to JUMP Tractor Tour, the new Boise State University Modern Museum of Art, and more! Gala, Awards Banquet, and Exhibition at the Idaho State Museum, 5 – 9 pm.

June 7: Farewell Breakfast – Riverside dining area. Optional no-host excursions.

July 26: Last day of WFWS-45 Exhibition – Idaho State Museum
